Privacy notice
This notice explains what Domain Statistics (domainstatistics.co.uk) stores, why, and for how long. Questions: hello@domainstatistics.co.uk.
No tracking
We don’t use analytics, advertising trackers or third-party scripts. Every page, font and image is served from our own server, so your browser doesn’t contact anyone else when you use the site.
Cookies
- Form security cookie. When a page with a form is shown (such as the lookup box), we set a session cookie containing a random token. It protects the forms against cross-site request forgery and expires when you close your browser. It isn’t used to track you.
- Admin cookie. The site owner’s admin area uses its own session cookie, only for people who sign in there.
What we store when you look up a domain
- The domain and its results. We store the domain name and the results of each check (for example registration dates, DNS records and the page title). Reports are public and are kept until they’re removed or replaced by a newer check. We never store the content of the websites we check, and we never store personal registrant details from registry records.
- A hashed version of your IP address. To limit how many lookups one visitor can make, we store a salted SHA-256 hash of your IP address with the time of each new lookup. We can’t turn the hash back into your address. These records are deleted automatically after 48 hours.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our web server keeps standard access logs (including IP addresses) for security and troubleshooting; our hosting provider manages and rotates them.
Removal requests
If you use the removal form, we store the domain, your message, the email address if you give one, and a hashed IP address, so we can deal with the request. Requests are deleted within 90 days of being closed.
Outbound links
Links to other websites go through our /go/ address so we can keep them up to date. We count clicks on these links by date and link name only — no personal data is stored. Once you leave our site, the other site’s privacy policy applies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what we hold about you and ask us to delete it. Because we store only hashed IP addresses, we usually can’t link records to a person. If you have a concern you can also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
